Tellus did the general construction and design on a sixteen month renovation of an NBA team's practice facility. Locker rooms, performance and rehab space, coaching areas, a player lounge, the whole program phased across more than a year. The one rule that could not bend was that the team never stopped using the building. There was no offseason long enough to shut it down and rebuild it clean, so every phase had to sequence around a team that kept training and kept showing up every single day. My job was holding every trade and vendor to the phasing they had actually agreed to, because the moment one trade ran long, the team felt it directly. We finished the full program without ever pulling the building out of service. The lesson I carry from it is that the hardest renovations are not the technically difficult ones. They are the ones where the client cannot pause their life while you work around them.
