NuWay wanted a new U.S. market opened with no paid diligence. Introductions to buyers in exchange for a split. He wanted it solely commission-based, like a free salesperson.
I declined to put real resources behind it. We kept it on a 50/50 commission split, and we shop it only when a buyer shows up.
Entering a market is expensive: compliance, corporate structure, contracts, investor readiness. None of it was going to be paid for, and the split wasn't enough to justify the work.
It's a back-burner project. If a buyer turns up, say an assisted living operator, we make the deal and renegotiate better terms with the buyer in hand.
A commission-only offer prices your work at zero until someone else says yes. Put resources where the terms carry the risk.
