What it is
Fluidmapper's founder supplied a sample data package from a mixing vessel run at three speeds. It is about 9 GB. The site offers it as a lead magnet.
A visitor enters a name, an email and a purpose. A panel opens with four download buttons, and the company's sales inbox gets a notice for each request. The files sit in private storage. Leads are handled by hand, because no customer database was ready to receive them.
What Khounlavong did
- Chose the simplest of the options on September 25, 2026: no email round trip, no database and no per-person revoke. Links that expire do that work.
- Set the form at three fields: name, email and purpose. He ruled out a work email requirement and a company field.
- Had the download links appear at once in a panel, with no email verification step.
- Stored the files in private storage and served them through signed links that expire.
- Split the package into four bundles: a start bundle with the instructions, codes and geometry, and one bundle per speed. The folders inside each bundle match the source package.
- Sent a notice to the company's sales inbox for every request, from a company address and never from his own.
- Added click tracking per bundle the same evening. He chose it over analytics click events, and accepted the stated limit that a click is not a completed download.
- Added a follow-up prompt to the sales inbox 90 minutes after a request, when the person downloaded nothing or only one bundle.
- Added a stats page for the sales team, closed to search engines and behind a passcode.
- Kept the licence sentence: the data is for evaluation only and not for redistribution.
- Added the page to the site menu, the sitemap and the llms.txt files, with dataset structured data.
Results
- The page went live at fluidmapper.com/datasets on September 25, 2026.
- On September 27, 2026 the founder confirmed that the notices reach the sales inbox, approved the page copy, and said he loves the stats dashboard.
- No count of requests or downloads is recorded in any document read.
